SPOILER ALERT (just like you asked Jenny, but late, sorry!)
i just found this info out. Jennylee (she just started a blogger so check that out!) told me there was going to be a Donnie Darko sequel, and i thought there's NO WAY. but i just looked on IMDB.com a few moments ago and saw this.
S. Darko takes place in the summer of 1995, seven years after the original film. It follows Donnie Darko's younger sister, Samantha (Daveigh Chase), who, in the wake of his death, has found herself at age 17 with a broken family, mired in feelings of insignificance. She and her best friend Corey (Evigan) set off on a road trip to Hollywood in a bid to 'make it big', but their journey is cut short when their car breaks down unexpectedly, leaving them stranded in a small desert town. When a meteorite happens to crash-land nearby, Samantha is plagued by bizarre visions telling of the universe's end and it appears that their breakdown was part of some grander plan. When she finds out she was actually adopted by the Darkos, and that she is in no way related to Donnie, she must face her own demons and, in doing so, save the world and herself. [Source Wikipedia] -though i did find this on imdb.com...curious, right!?? and btw: this film is scheduled to come out in 2009.
the guy who directed Donnie Darko, Richard Kelly, is not directing S. Darko (& he's not writing it either, he also wrote Donnie). so i don't really know how to feel about this. the story seems not that interesting. hm, the end (saving the world) basically seems like a rip off of Donnie Darko. weird. so honestly, i don't think i'd want to see this film. and i just got done watching the director's cut of Donnie w/director commentary & the director said that there would NEVER be a sequel. that THAT would make no sense. so i kinda feel like "Huh, man!??" and maybe he had no say in this film, idk.
so S. Darko is kinda a sequel, kinda not...hm, very strange & very curious, ya think?!?~

I'm a big fan of Donnie Darko and can't imagine another movie coming close to it's strangeness, cultish, eclectic wonderment that DD offers. I will not watch S. Darko, and that is that.-cheers
