Marina Abramovic: Seven Easy Pieces

Over the last several months I've discovered Marina Abramovic and her performance art work.  I love her and am very intrigued & inspired by performance art now.  I bought her DVD The Artist is Present and loved it.  And I knew that there was another DVD of hers kicking around somewhere.  It was this one, Seven Easy Pieces.  Could not find it anywhere to buy (or was very overpriced)...so I was able to find it on YouTube.  Yay, happiness!  This is Marina performing seven pieces of performance art originally done by other performance artists and one piece is her own.  I believe that one is called Lips of Thomas and is probably the longest piece of the seven.  And is very difficult to watch...like most her work.  But nevertheless I still enjoy it and take something away from it as well.

Opening Paragraph for Paradoxia by Lydia Lunch

"So twisted by men, a man, my father, that I became like one. Everything I adored about them, they despised in me. Ruthlessness, arrogance, stubbornness, distance and cruelty. A cold calculating nature, immune to all but my own reason. Never able to acknowledge the repercussions of my behavior. Oblivious to the brutality and selfishness with which I would lacerate others."

Great book, almost finished with it....

My 777th Post

Wow, just realized this is my 777th post.  Began this Blog in December 2008.  Going to keep it going as long as I can.  Still love my Blog.  Hope you enjoy this poem by Ella Wheeler Wilcox.

Solitude by Ella Wheeler Wilcox

Laugh, and the world laughs with you;
    Weep, and you weep alone;
For the sad old earth must borrow its mirth,
    But has trouble enough of its own.
Sing, and the hills will answer;
    Sigh, it is lost on the air;
The echoes bound to a joyful sound,
    But shrink from voicing care.

Rejoice, and men will seek you;
    Grieve, and they turn and go;
They want full measure of all your pleasure,
    But they do not need your woe.
Be glad, and your friends are many;
    Be sad, and you lose them all,—
There are none to decline your nectared wine,
    But alone you must drink life’s gall.

Feast, and your halls are crowded;
    Fast, and the world goes by.
Succeed and give, and it helps you live,
    But no man can help you die.
There is room in the halls of pleasure
    For a large and lordly train,
But one by one we must all file on
    Through the narrow aisles of pain.
