A Couple Movie Reviews

Happy Saturday to all of you. Here's a couple short film reviews of ones I saw this week. I don't think my reviews give away too much so hopefully you'll want to see 'em if you already haven't.

First is Choke. Have you ever seen Fight Club? Well, it's the same writer of that BUT minus all the bloodiness...and much more comedy. Yet, it still has that interesting twist near the end where you're like "Wait a minute, really!? Now I have to go back & watch it again." The main character, Victor (played by Sam Rockwell), is a sex addict & a con man who's also trying to save his delusional mother from dying in the process. After watching Fight Club, I wanted to read his novel and the same thing now applies to Choke...ok, I haven't read Fight Club yet but I really want to. Chuck Palahniuk seems to be a great writer...I can't wait to see his next book on the big screen. Choke gets the EVE stamp of approval. :)

I just watched this film last night and it was pretty good. It's called How To Lose Friends & Alienate People. It revolves around Sidney Young, a British journalist who "loves exposing the shallowness of the celebrity world." (That was taken from the back of the DVD.) ;) And it's a really good story because it's true. The celebrity world is pretty shallow when you think about it and this film shows example after example how these people take themselves way too seriously...and Sidney is there to instigate them. I'm really starting to like Simon Pegg a lot, he plays Sidney. Kirsten Dunst is really good as his co-worker and love interest, and Jeff Bridges is always great-he plays his boss. There's a pig on the cover (and back too) but don't let that fool you, he's only in a few minutes of the beginning-darn! Cuz I love piggies, aww. Very good film, not as good as Choke, but still gets the EVE stamp of approval.
