Drawings, Art Shows, and HP Art Fair

Hello Blogger Friends, it's been a while.  Not too too much ART stuff has been happening lately and I really haven't been in many shows over the past year.  And it was something I didn't realize until recently.  So I wanted to start doing a couple shows again so several months ago I decided to do a show called REJECTED.  The theme was artwork that had been rejected from a previous art show.  I got one piece in called "Stand," which was rejected from a tattoo show called INK.  Rejected was a pretty good show.  My art piece was a painting based off the drawings I do (like the one pictured above), so I was glad to show it.

I have been drawing quite a lot lately.  It's 10 times easier to do than painting and it is far less messy of course.  I've been drawing an image of a woman with a blindfold for quite a while now...maybe 5 years.  She pretty much always has a blindfold as eyes (unless I give her a half mask)...but her body and hair are always changing.  For example in the picture above she has hair that is long but that is actually a raven's face and beak (see it?).  Also she has no arms...I didn't really feel the need for them in this drawing.

So just because I decided to do an art show next month called Corpus Illuminata.  The theme is artwork that is anatomical, biological, or medically themed.  The piece that they selected for this show is a drawing of mine in which a female figure is carrying a fetus.  I have drawn this image before and almost chose to submit the original drawing of it...but I chose to work on a new updated version to see the result.  And I liked the result so I am happy it got chosen for this show.

Also at the end of next month I will be doing an art fair with a friend of mine.  It is called the Hazel Park Fine Art Fair.  I did this show several years ago and I am pretty excited to be doing it again.  I specifically made smaller art for this show (so I could charge less) so I am hoping the fair gets a good turnout.  When I did it the first time the show was very slow...I am thinking it was that way because it was a fairly new art festival.

Hope your summer is going well friends!  Talk to you soon again!

Beautiful Monstrosities Art Show

My Poor Baby by Audrey Pongracz

What a great show at 323 East Gallery in Royal Oak Saturday night. Beautiful Monstrosities had many new artworks by local Detroit artists Audrey Pongracz and April Segedi. I've been looking forward to checking out this show for a while. A very cool interview with the two artists about this Victorian-themed show can be found here.

Audrey by her piece My Poor Baby.
This was my favorite piece in the show.
And wow, look at that gorgeous frame!

First Post Here I gooooooo!

Hi friends.

I wasn't sure how to do this first post of my NEW kinda blog (well, primarily my art blog now). And since I can't upload pics at the moment, I figured I'd write a bit about what's been going on with me for the past several months in this fabulous Detroit art scene (as well as some of my past art experiences). ;) A lot of you know this already if you've been following my blog but I figured I'd write about it to get the ball rollin'.

So I found out both of the pieces I submitted to DAMNED II got into the show in early October, the show being at the end of that month. Wow, it was really exciting. I remember thinking at the time that I hadn't felt that happy in a long long while. Basically because I had been making art on/off for about 10 years...without submitting anything.

I had kinda my own show in 1999. I say "kinda" because there were 4 or 5 other artists in the show also but I had the most pieces and well I was kinda the "headliner" (name at the top of the flier) in a way. And I helped do the promotion, etc... So yeah see what I mean by kinda my show?

It was a lot of fun. That was my first exhibit...ever...and again, great feeling to be out there showing my art...and the icing on the cake was I also sold my first piece at that show. What an awesome feeling! Only comparable to when I sold my most recent piece at Wonderland.

The benefit of both the times I sold a piece was that I actually chatted with the women who were interested in my art so that was really cool. And what cool people! Now I can't imagine selling something without having any contact with the person interested in my art. Seems odd.

So after that show in 1999, I made art on/off and tried to get involved in an art group in Detroit called the Girlie Collective. I went to one meeting and two of their art shows. It was cool and fun but it seemed like they only wanted WOMEN/FEMINIST art....and at that time the art I was making wasn't so....women directed. I painted a lot of faces...abstract of course...and occasionally using the glue gun for mixed media stuff. I don't know whatever happened to that group....seemed to disappear before too long.

So I really wasn't too concerned about getting into any shows for quite a while after that. Once in a while I thought about going back to the place where I had my first exhibit but I had issues with the owner so that soon became out of the question. And basically this is where I say not a whole lot happened after that....I was making art but not often and not really developing a style...atleast not a style I could possibly call my own. And I think at this point in my "art life" I have found my style.

So let's go back to recent, Wonderland was the next show I had my work up in. This was a HUGE honor for me as many of you know I LOVE Alice In Wonderland (hence my blog's name of course). There weren't too many artists involved so I felt even more cool to be a part of it. AND I had 4 pieces there...well technically only 3 were up but that's a weird story. One more "and," AND my good friend, Mariandra X, was in this show with me again. (She was a part of DAMNED and I met her during the first night of it.)

We were soon becoming the dynamic duo...haha because....

...we were both a part of the 3rd and most recent show I've been in since my hiatus, which was the Bad Channels: A Cult Film Inspired Art Show. That was fun. I made a door (although small) that opened (was an interactive piece) called "Cellar Door," inspired by the film Donnie Darko.

So yeah, Mariandra and I have been partners in crime for a little bit. It has been very cool, because it's great to have all these new (& wonderful!) experiences with someone else. And we get along so good it's ridiculous! I'm so grateful to have met her....she's really cool and a very awesome artist as well. (Oh, and she also has a little cute white doggie just like me, haha!)

Well, if I wasn't in another art show for a year, I'd be happy with the awesome experiences I've had....but heck YES I'd like to be in another of course. I'm sure any artist would admit to that. But one day at a time. And it's good to have a little break because those 3 shows were pretty back to back. I made A LOT of art since October 2009...so ahhh, a little here and there is fine but wow, I felt like a machine for a bit. (Especially with the Wonderland show...I think I had a total of 5 or 6 pieces when I was done...with 3 being in the show...I worked my butt off during that time, whew!)

So there's a possibility of something happening but I don't want to talk about it here to jinx anything....but I will say IF it does happen and I AM a part of it, it will be the BIGGEST thing (art speaking) that I have done yet. So I really don't want to talk about it until I find out more info....so don't ask friends, cuz yeah...I'm super paranoid.

Well, I doubt I'll be posting THIS much at a time every time...but I hope this gave you a little bit of my pre-EVE days. Because yeah, my name was not Eve while I was making art then. Eve Noir has only existed for a year or two...and you know what they say, "change your name, change your life!" Something like that, right? :)

No but seriously I do feel like I've changed a bit and learned a lot within the past several months. And as cheesy as it sounds, I'm seeing a little bit of the light at the end of the tunnel. Realizing that even if I don't do this as a career, it's just really fun to be a part of these shows....as well as meeting many cool people along the way. :)

Take care friends and be chatting with you later.

I'm STILL here...and I have wonderful news!

This very cool lady bought my piece, Rabbit Hole, yay! And she said it was her very first art purchase. Very sweet! :)

There it is in black & white, with that sweet RED mark saying it has SOLD, yay!!!

My 3 pieces (not including Rabbit Hole) at Wonderland. All made for the show. And with Wonderland love. :)

Hi friends and fellow bloggers. Woweee, things have been kinda hectic but in a good way. I was part of an art show last week, Wonderland, in Detroit. And YAY, one of my pieces sold. Very exciting. The performance was quite great too...as was all of the art up in the gallery over last weekend.
And now for even more exciting news-Wonderland will be going on for one more weekend, yay! And it's this weekend, which so happens to be the same weekend as my 2nd art show of the year, Bad Channels, a cult film inspired art show. Umm....this is never gonna happen again! That is 2 art shows in a day that I'm attending...both with my art. Yikes, out of control!

OK, just wanted to say HI & BYE and a FYI. Ok, that's a bit cheesy...but you know what I mean. Take care friends! Oh, and I'm on FaceBook btw (Eve Noir, Detroit)...just like everyone else in the world right now. LOL. Adios!~~~

Quick Notes about Etsy and Art Shows I'll be in

Hi everyone.

Just a quick note about my ETSY shop, Looking Glass Gallery. I am having an XMAS/End of 2009 Sale. Everything is either 17 or 19 dollars at the moment, with the exception of one set of dolls (shipping is not included, sorry). I am unsure if I want to continue having an ETSY shop...have yet to make a sale and I'm not getting much traffic.

I heard of another "handmade art" website and I may re-open LGG there. I guess I'll see what happens. Plus I'm not really selling (or attempting to sell) the kind of art I REALLY make there. You know what I mean...canvas, mirror stuff, etc... I'm basically trying to sell what I can easily ship...as it's not so easy to ship canvas and delicate things with glass or mirror that I do....so my ART website is uncertain at the moment. But I'll keep you all updated for sure!

Some cool things happening with me lately: 1) I'm going to have an art piece in a local art (cult film inspired) show called Bad Channels on January 8th. I did a piece called "Cellar Door" inspired by one of my fave films, Donnie Darko. Should be a lot of fun. 2) There's an event taking place New Years Eve through the 2nd of January 2010 called Wonderland. I talked about it in the spring on here but was unable to go. So it's cool that it's happening again AND....ready....???....one (or more) of my pieces will be in the show. Yay! They definitely accepted one...they may select another. So this is wonderful news for me....as you all know how much I LOVE Wonderland and Alice. So I'm also very excited about that.

I'll be checking in soon again. I hope you're all doing good and enjoy the rest of your week.

Post Apocalyptic Motor City show @ 323

I went to an art show over the weekend at 323 Gallery in Royal Oak. I didn't take any pictures because it was really packed...and I just wasn't in the mood to take 'em honestly. So what you see is pics I've borrowed from 323's FaceBook page of the show-Post Apocalyptic Motor City. As I was browsing the pics last night, I saw that my friend April and I were in several-very cool! And I posted a couple below...you can see us alright...I didn't even see 'em take the pics. Because if I did, I'm sure I would've tried dodging 'em. :) Ok, on with the show...

The picture above is the outside of the gallery. Yes, it normally is that color but the party store signs and such they added for this particular show.

And this picture shows basically the whole gallery...and me too...(I'm on the left, in black pointing...with crazy headband-I know!...and it's kinda funny there's another lady in the distance pointing too...looks interesting & cool) and April, who is right next to me...not facing the camera. Don't I look like I know what I'm talking about...critiquing the art & all?, ha ha....

Another view of the gallery (from the back to the front door entrance)...and yup, me again with my backpack/purse in black. OK, that's all the pics of me...now on to the rest of the show...

Getting more & more packed...don't see April or me...we could've left by this time...

Some of the very cool art on the wall. And below are some of my favorite pieces on the walls...

...Here's just a general view of the front of the gallery...where all the jewelry & knick knack artsy things are...More pieces I like from the show are below...

All in all, had a really nice time. Got REALLY packed by the end of the night (around 10-ish)...lots of people were outside, but it is a small gallery. If you'd like to check out 323's website and the artists shown here, as well all the other cool artists, please click HERE.
Hope you enjoyed the pictures and enjoy your day.~

Hm, maybe it's time to get a bit DARK & creepy!!!

Last year's flier/card for DAMNED

I just picked up a flier today about a local art show happening soon called DAMNED II. It took place last year (on Devil's Night, they call it in Detroit...the night before Halloween) and this marks its second year. Anyways you can submit your art (for FREE) and there's really nothing to lose by showing your stuff. So as the back of the flier says: "Artists of all mediums are welcome to submit their work for review. There are no restrictions on genre or content but the more beautifully disturbing or powerfully instrospective, the better."

And I've made some DARKer stuff in the past (another reason for me to get the rest of my old art pieces out of storage at the parents' house). One piece comes to mind in particular...and I'm glad I didn't sell it at the art show I had (back in the day). I actually found a picture of it recently (used to be good at taking pics of my art) and said "OH, I made that!" It may seem a lil' dark to people but I love this piece.

I don't have a scanner so let me try describing it a bit (btw: don't know the name of this piece)....it's a grey/black/silver metallic painting with a silver metallic (painted) plastic doll's body (from the waist up) glued in a spot of dark red paint...aka: blood, at the bottom of the painting. I glued wire (w/stars on it that you buy at Xmas or other holidays) from the top of the painting to the pool of "blood." I honestly don't know what I was trying to say with this piece but when I look back on my old art, that one stands out to me for some reason. Was really happy with the end result...and many of my old paintings (10 years back or so), I don't really like much now.

BUT, I'm not going to use THAT painting/mixed media piece if I were to show my stuff for possible display @ DAMNED. Hm....I don't know what I'd make. Maybe a painting...maybe something with mirrors....I'll have to think about it. BUT I got 2 months to get my stuff in so I want to try making atleast 3-4 pieces.

If you'd like to check out their website, please click HERE. I really wanted to go last year but couldn't make it....maybe I will this time around. As the flier says it's "A Dark Fine Art Exhibition with Formal Masquerade Ball." Sounds like fun!!!

Enjoy your weekend~
