Getting Reaquainted with Crystal Castles

I started listening to Crystal Castles right about the time they released their 1st CD.  I knew how groundbreaking it was...and it still sounds like nothing I've ever heard before...and that's a GREAT thing.  So lately I've been listening to CC while driving and wow, this band rules!
And their live performances are so good!  Unfortunately Alice Glass is no longer the vocalist but I would still give 'em a chance well because the music is amazing.  I missed out on seeing 'em live.  I forget what exactly happened but I think the show wasn't convienent to go to.  Atleast I'm hoping that's what the reason was because DARN, I would've loved to have seen them LIVE.
But who knows, maybe I will still get the chance to!  Here's hoping!
Enjoy this amazing clip of "Plague" from their last album.

The xx Sunset

This one is quite great too!

The xx Fiction

I'm in love (with The xx).  This is my favorite song from their latest CD.
Happy to have discovered this beautiful music.

Fiction
When we’re not together
Mistaken for a vision
Something of my own creation

I wake up alone
With only daylight between us
Last night the world was beneath us
Tonight comes too long

Were we torn apart
By the break of day
You’re more than I can believe
Would ever come my way

Fiction
When we’re not together
Mistaken for a vision
Something of my own creation

Come real life
Why do I refuse you
Cause if my fear’s right
I risk to lose you

And if I just might
Wake up alone
Bring on the night

Fiction
When we’re not together
Mistaken for a vision
Something of my own creation

An uncertain haze
How am I to tell
I know your face all too well
Still I wake up alone

Fiction
When we’re not together

heart shaped box (lullaby version)

Someone posted this on Facebook today and it really got me thinking. In an artistic way. I was messing around with ideas for "performance art" around the winter months. I don't know if I could actually do it but I was just trying it out...with different songs...different ideas. Anyhow I liked this lullaby song (#6) by NIN for the Ghosts album...and then when I heard THIS (all the Nirvana ones but especially this one) I started thinking again. This song is creepy...and effective...hmm.....

Mike would be mad...

...if he knew I was doing this post. He would say "Why bother!?!" But I don't care...I have feelings and I think it's important to express them...and maybe some people won't agree but hey, that's fine. This is my blog afterall and I can do what I want! So there! :P

OK, this is what just happened. I was reading something on Yahoo or AOL about the new (atleast I believe it is) Marilyn Manson video "Running to the Edge of the World." And there's a lot of speculation/controversy on it I guess. So what I got out of the article was that he did this music video, a girl is in it who looks very very VERY similar to his past girlfriend (Evan Rachel Wood), and basically she gets extremely beat up by him. At the end...like the last 2 minutes. So you just see him singing into the camera for 4 minutes (zzzz...and the point is what?) and then this crazy violence involving a girl...a woman.

And so we watched it and I knew what my reaction would be during and after it from the article. I hated it. I don't understand what the reaction besides "WTF!?!" I'm supposed to have. I don't know if it's different for a guy or what but there's almost nothing I hate more than watching a woman get abused...be it in a film or video. I just don't like it and I don't find it "artsy" or meaningful most the times. Well, 95% of the time. It's just something I feel strongly about and honestly I lose respect for people when they choose to do something that I find very distasteful. I mean it's just ridiculous when you choose a girl who looks pretty freakin' identical to your past girlfriend. People can put the pieces together Marilyn, duhhhh!

Don't get me wrong, I think he's a good artist. I've actually been listening to my fave album by him, Golden Age of Grotesque, quite often lately. I read some comments on the YouTube page for the video and people went both ways...some said it was just not right while others said it's artistic, bla bla bla. And then Mike said something that actually did make sense while I was complaining about the video while watching it...he said "Well, Marilyn Manson shouldn't be singing ballads to begin with." LOL. That's true...he's gone very soft over the past several years (his more recent work has not been very impressive to Mike or me)...but then when he goes off the deep end, he REALLY gets insane.

I'm not even going to link the video here. I actually would not recommend it to anyone to watch. But if you're curious, go ahead...but be prepared to see some terrible violence. I don't care if it's "not real"...because that's really not the point in my eyes...the point is it's not funny, artistic, or amusing...and you look like an a$$hole and therefore you probably are if you have no other way to express your inner pain than to resort to that for the world to see. It's not entertainment whatsoever to me and it's insults me as a woman...again, I know it's fake but that is really not the point. I hate violence in any aspect but when it comes to a woman getting beat by a man, that's where I have serious issues.

Questions...thoughts...views???....please share and if you don't want me to post it, I won't (just tell me in your post cuz I do moderate 'em). I just really don't understand this bs and when it's a person I like, I get completely confused on how to think about their "art." Ahh....maybe I just really did not need to see something like that right before bed. Gets me in a frenzy...but on the plus side....Heidi should be receiving her prizepack any day now. And she'll be posting pics, yay! Can't wait to see if she likes the stuff.

Take care friends and followers.

One of those lazy days

Ever have one of those really really really lazy days? Where you just want to stay home and relax and lounge around? That's what I want to do today but (ugh) I gotta be at work at 4 pm. I've just been listening to Dead Man's Bones (post below) pretty non-stop since I heard the album was streaming on MySpace yesterday. I think it's probably my favorite album of 2009 at this point. I've never heard anything quite like it. And it's just haunting, rockin', and awesome. Ryan's voice is great...as is the children's choir. Good stuff.

OK, below is some pics of a handheld battery-operated fan. Took 'em all in the dark (night time mode on my camera). Liked how they came out. Ok, going back to my laziness. Enjoy the pics and take care. (Oh and don't forget the giveaway...I'm going to probably say it 10 more times before it's over, so prepare yourself for much repeated-ness. Sorry but I got to spread the word!)

Yeah Yeah Yeahs: Heads Will Roll video

...as some of you know, I HEART the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. And I happen to really love their second single, "Heads Will Roll," which will be released (w/awesome remixes) July 14th on I-tunes. This song is special to me because 1-Hm, the words "Off with your head!" are used...2-as well as the great lyric "Looking-glass, take the past. Shut your eyes, realize." Can we say very ALICE-inspired?!!? And I just found their video for it so I just HAD to post it. (Included in this video are: a dancing werewolf, confetti/glitter, and chopped up bodies-that's at the end...so watch the WHOLE thing, o.k.?!!?)

I think this song is my Looking-Glass theme of the year...for the reasons listed above. I'm bummed Mike and I didn't get to see 'em live-$$$ is very tight until we get our roomie next month. So hopefully they'll come around again. We've seen 'em twice before and they are AWESOME live....LOVE Karen O.-she's one hell of a great singer/front woman/entertainer!!!

Please enjoy "Heads Will Roll!"~

Remember how...

...I saw Fischerspooner recently? And they were SO freakin' awesome live?!! Well, Mike just told me today that they're gonna be on the channel, LOGO, at midnight this Sunday. (LOGO is primarily a 'gay' channel with some really really good stuff on it, including Rupaul's Drag Race-which I always wanted to post about but never did, darn!) And it looks like Casey Spooner (singer and one half of electronica performance art band Fischerspooner) will be chatting about "the business of art and the business of entertainment."

Well, that's what I saw from watching a short clip that was a bulletin on MySpace today. I'm gonna assume he'll be talking about other stuff as well but I can't really tell from the, again, very short clip. AND they will be broadcasting their sweet video for "We Are Electric" then as well. So if you can, watch it, cuz they rule! This is what their bulletin says: FS are hosting NewNowNext on LOGO this coming Sunday the 14th with a rebroadcast of the video for "We Are Electric."

But since the video is so sweet (and yes CASEY was wearing THAT outfit at the show-amazing!)....I'd like to post it here anyways. ;} Enjoy!~

Fischerspooner LIVE in Detroit last night

Last night I saw Fischerspooner LIVE.
And only one word can describe the experience...
A-MAZ-ING!

I took more pictures than I thought but I'm really glad I did. So instead of posting ALL of 'em here, which I'd love to but Flickr is a much more easier place, I invite you all to check out my live pics on my Flickr account. My Fischerspooner live pictures can be found HERE. I recommend checking 'em out as a slideshow because they go in order. And because I think it shows the experience from start to finish better.

I didn't think Mike and would get such great spots-front row, to the left side. Mainly because we were 2 hours late (bad Eve, I know!)...& we missed the first opener...and half of the 2nd opener but that wasn't too big of a deal. These photos are very....hm...different. Probably because there was SOOO much movement and so many lights going on. I don't think they're bad, I actually think they look cooler because of those factors.
But take a look and let me know what ya think.
:)

Below are a couple pictures that I took at my show. And at the very bottom is a YouTube live clip of Fischerspooner on May 7th in NYC. This is pretty much the same thing I saw last night. Enjoy the clip as well as my pics, if you dare to take a peek!

Oh, and good Monday to you all!!!

They used these mirrors throughout the night.
And you know I love me some mirrors, aka: looking-glasses!

O.K. They have technical difficulties less than 1/2 way into the song....but please keep watching. They get back on track very quickly...you don't want to miss the really cool dancers in their yellow tutus, now do you!??!

A Lil' of This & That and I got BUSTED for...

...looking at porn at work.
So, do you believe me?
I hope not cuz I was just teasing. ;}

But I did get busted this morning on my way to work by a police officer. You can see his car in my looking-glass (mirror) as he's writing my ticket. You know how you turn out of somewhere (anywhere) and sometimes there's another turn-around right in front of you...but there's a sign that says something like Right Turn Only?
Well I went straight across the street...I have a bad habit of that simply because I'm lazy. So I got busted...darn, and I was having a good morning at home...& this happens right before work!

I think the officer said 'disobey(ed)' like 3 times...ugh! I'm not that bad...but now I know I can't be lazy any more and must turn right ONLY. :)

What lies below is some other stuff...
that's been going on in my life lately.

Darn these for not working today!
They are Asian good luck charms that I got from the Asian store...
right before it closed.
Aren't they sweet looking?
I only have one hanging up right now...
maybe I need to hang 'em all up.

My good friend Jennylee and I went out to a cool new sushi place the other day (well new to me) and I loved it there. I felt like I was in Japan for the hour...hour & a half we were there.

The people were very VERY friendly and the food was awesome-both in taste and how it looks. Jenny took the above pic of our food before we ate...
everything!!!

Sorry yours was SO spicy, Jenny. :(

I ordered some sushi called 'Christmas.'
Yes, I'm serious it was really called that.
See the red sparkles...pretty, hm?
They are actually fish eggs BUT you can't taste 'em.
Very lovely and yummy!

After sushi, we each had a shot of Absinthe at her home.
Both of us were Absinthe-virgins before Monday night.
Tasted...interesting.
Smells and tastes like black licorice.
Makes you a lil' woozy about a half hour after drinking it...
but not too bad...like if you had some Nyquil.

Thanks Jenny & (your) Mike for letting me have a bottle...
no, it wasn't full....it was an empty one...
but that's cool because it was a sweet bottle
(as you can see above).

Got Tori's new CD today...
since I ordered it off of Amazon.
It's pretty good.
My fave song so far is 'That Guy.'
Awesome packaging...
and I'm excited to see the videos...
which came with the deluxe version.

Work was good today.
There was a full-time meeting all day...
and I'm not full-time...
so we didn't have any supervision,
woo hoo!

So we got a lot of the leftovers from their meeting.
Oh my, I had a sandwich, fruit...
(love the strawberry above & how it's cut)...
and wayyy tooo many pastries.
But they rarely have that BIG of a meeting,
so it was ok to pig out a bit.
;}

Have you met my future husband, Ryan, yet?
Well, I haven't either BUT his show,
Paranormal State,
had it's finale on Monday night.
It was really great.
Dracenea says so too! :}

A lot of my shows are ending for the season....
:(
but a couple are also starting up.
Like new Intervention episodes,
as well as a brand new show on A & E called...
Obsessed.
It's about peeps with OCD.
Should be interesting.

Oh, and here's a shout out (to myself!)...
Please visit my other blog...
For the Love of Goth...
(link to it above).
Because if you can guess close...
to how many buttons are in this drawer,
you could win a nice little prize pack.
I need some more guesses so I'm plugging it here. :)

I'm anxiously awaiting the above print by...
Jasmine Becket-Griffith.
It's Alice & Lewis Carroll...
(author of the 2 Alice books).
Jasmine is going to personalize the back for me.
It was my first purchase off Etsy.
And it didn't cost more for it to be personalized.
What a deal-only 13.99 for an 8 x 10 print...
shipping was about 4 bucks.
Yay! So cool. I'll post it once it arrives.

Got this cool (childrens) goth book for cheap at Borders.
Think I'll include it in an upcoming giveaway on...
my other blog because they were BOGO free.

I'm getting my hair dyed THIS color tomorrow...
finally!
Doesn't this girl have an awesome cut & color?
I know the cut wouldn't look right on me...
but I love the color.
I was SOLD by this pretty girls' face & hair,
I must admit.

OH & THIS POST is...
my 300th post on here.
Woweeee....
what the heck did I write about...
for the past 6 months!??

~Hope you all have a good one!!!~

The Kills at the Magic Stick

I wasn't able to get any shots...I was toooo far away unfortunately. :( But the pics below I took...

First up, the merchandise! Here's the merch table for all 3 bands. The Kills merch being at the end on the right. Mike wanted a shirt but I really didn't want one...didn't want another black shirt...don't really like white shirts...and they had a red one but...

...he wanted that one & got it. Which I didn't mind cuz I wanted something different anyhow. This is the front and the back only has the words 'The Kills' at the top. He liked this shirt because they ALL hate you, ha ha. No, he said afterwards he wanted it because it said Detroit Hates You-didn't even notice that when I was looking at it there.

We were curious to were there's a Georgia (city) or Seven Sisters (city). I looked both up and there's two Georgias-one in Indiana & one in Vermont. We couldn't figure out were Seven Sisters (presumably a city) was at...if anyone knows, lemme know!

I did want something though...either the tote bag or a set of postcards. So I got the tote. I HEART totes (from concerts) these days. And this was a really cool image & a tote you can 'wear' every day unlike a shirt...and it'll last longer. I got into band totes with MSI...then got 'em from Gogol Bordello's concert, Ladytron's, and now The Kills. I could be forgetting one or two though...hmm....

AND a very sweet thing was if your purchase came to $20 (which a t-shirt cost), then you get this sweet mirror (aka: looking-glass) above. So basically with every shirt you get the mirror...Mike gave me his, uhh yeah, he just HAD to!

And this is the actual mirror side...very cool idea! I really like to get something different from a concert nowadays besides a t-shirt. Like tour books, cups, totes, etc...

OK, now for my mini-review...

The Kills were really great in concert Friday night. Didn't care for one of their openers, The Horrors, but as my previous post said, Magic Wands (first opening act) were REALLY good. So for the main band-The Kills are so interesting and fun to watch, and it's just Hotel (Jamie, he's the guitarist) & VV (the singer, sometimes other guitarist) up there. Lots of energy and rockin' good music. VV aka: Allsion is crazy live but I love that. Actually they both were but more so her...she really reminded me of Janis Joplin if I had to compare her to another rockin' lady. Her voice might not be as soulful but her stage presence & attitude was very Janis-like. Oh & she sang "Crazy" by Patsy Cline (right!?) and that was pretty cool. And all this fun for only $15 bucks?...it was definitely worth every penny!
Italic
My only complaints were that the Magic Stick has this ongoing issue where they f*ck up the sound & they (Kills) had to stop & get set up again during the first song. Plus it was over packed in the club (my opinion cuz I've never seen so many peeps in that place before). And we had some BIG @ssholes in front of us at the VIP table. You could tell they weren't really there for the concert...a few of 'em even left halfway through the show-WTH!?? One guy was really annoying...he kept trying to caress & molest (well, practically) his date although she looked like she wanted nothing to do with him. Mike & I pretty much felt like punching him in the face (he did other things like putting his cigarette so freakin' close to us, cuz he was sitting & we were standing right behind him). So thank goodness he left! I hate peeps like that. Ugh!

Overall, it was a great concert and I am going to get there EARLY next time so I can get main floor, front & center (cuz I really wanted some pics). That was a bummer but again, Mike & I were late so it was expected. Definitely one of the best indie rock bands around today.
Check 'em out live if they ever come to your town if ya can!~

From my concert, Friday night, at the Magic Stick
(not my video though)
Funny thing though, this is very close to the view I had of 'em:
