Hi friends. Recently I discovered a new artist. Her name is Patricia Anders. I first became familiar with her artwork because she had three pieces at the Unfiltered art show. It just came to my attention that she has a Blog also, which can be found HERE. I enjoy reading it, mainly because she watches the Bravo show Work of Art like me (and isn't afraid to talk about it unlike me!). Also please take a look at her ETSY page. When I get my next paycheck I think I'm going to purchase a print-they are reasonably priced and really beautiful pieces of art.

Art-o-Mat at Detroit Comics

Today I was out and about (early for a change too!) so I decided to take a little drive to Ferndale. It's a very cool little city near Royal Oak (you all know I go there often). So I mainly went to Ferndale to check out the Art-o-Mat machine at Detroit Comics. I've only heard of it recently from Took, who was the winner of my last giveaway. But ever since I heard of it from her, I've REALLY wanted to go and today was a perfect day (up early, no work, and nice out).

So what is an Art-o-Mat you might be wondering? Well, the Art-o-Mat dispenses original art works by artists from all over the USA. The Art-o-Mat itself is a retired cigarette vending machine. So basically what you do is....

...look at the different artists & a sample of their art (or description) above each knob.

Then you make your decision, pull the knob...and a second later, your art will come out. (Kerplunk-the noise when it drops down) Yay! Cool, right?

And here's some info (much I've already said) on the Art-o-Mat. So you might be wondering which ones did I choose? I originally thought I'd get TWO art pieces but after seeing ALL the art (and not knowing when I'd come back again), I decided to get THREE. I will show them below.


I chose this one and got...

...this beautiful image on wood. I love trees so I was very happy to get this one by artist Jessica Guptill.

The next one I chose was by an artist named Herbert Hoover. No picture of his art but the description was "hand cast pewter objects." I thought that was pretty interesting so I got...

...a cracker! Oooo, I wonder what it would look like!

And it looks like...a cracker! But a shiny silver cracker. ;) Very cool!

And lastly I said What The Heck and got one more cuz my eye kept going back to this image by artist Julie Armbruster. So if my eye is going back to look it means GET NOW EVE! LOL.

So I saw this cute little white whale...and thought HM, love it and I'm sure her art is cool.


And what do you know, I got the whale on wood! Yay! Mission accomplished. Thanks so much Took for telling me about the Art-o-Mat, I'm sure I will visit it soon again. This artist has inspired me lately...

...her name is Laurie Maitland...
and she's an abstract expressionist from Britain.

I purchased (well, the print) for dirt cheap at a Michaels going-out-of-business-sale.
I love it lots but my FAVORITE piece that I've seen so far of hers is the one above...it's called Constellations II.

Her pieces have inspired me to paint more and put the glue gun on the back burner...
especially when making my ATC's (artist trading cards).
And YES, one day I will post pics of those...
once we get the part we need for this computer.

3rd Question Asked by one of YOUs: Dinner & a Movie with ____

• If you could share dinner & a movie with THREE dead musicians, whom would they be and why?

• IAN CURTIS (LEAD SINGER OF JOY DIVISION)
• SYD BARRETT (ORIGINAL MEMBER/LEADER OF PINK FLOYD)
• SID VICIOUS (BASSIST FOR THE SEX PISTOLS)

• I have always been intrigued with Ian Curtis. Over the years I've come to realize (for me) he's a musical genius and he truly put all of his heart & soul into his music. He dared to do something completely different in music and I appreciate anyone who takes a risk whether they realize it was a RISK or not.
• His story is quite sad though. I've done lots of research on him to try to figure out the type of person he was...and of course why he would want to end his life at 1-a terribly young age (only 23 years old) and 2-why he would do it RIGHT before possibly getting the recognition Joy Division deserved (he killed himself the night before their first US tour).
• And although I can only say my opinion to WHY he would do it (which are many things and his friends/family also say it probably was many issues), I know he was really a lost soul...but still very intelligent, talented, and CUTE! ;)
• So at dinner I would like to chat with him about his lyrics, music, and life (in general). Telling him "Don't you know you are crazy to have killed yourself man! You were gonna be big superstars!" I just think it would be great to hang out with him. I feel a lot of things he we writes about (though many are sad, depressing, painful) but I applaud him for reaching deep down to bring those sorta feelings to the surface.

• Syd is a newcomer for me BUT I was very interested in his story when I found out that he was actually one of the original members of Pink Floyd. AND more importantly, that he was the first singer/writer/guitarist (basically was the leader) of the band. And although he only made ONE album with the band, he has this great legacy. One of those people (although it's kinda sad) that is labeled "Genius...or Madman?"
• Because he left the band (or was kicked out), and although he did a couple solo albums afterwards, he basically lived in total seclusion until he passed away a few years ago. People did not understand that and I really can't understand it completely either. He loved music so much and then....nothing. Very odd. I would definitely LOVE to have more of his music in my collection but he simply stopped...and that is quite sad because he was very talented.
• And yeah, he's really really attractive. Dark hair, dark eyes, tall...seems to be the general thing (tall, dark, handsome, haha)...but it's the kinda guy I'm usually physically attracted to. His eyes are killer-they draw you in completely. But anyways, he was ahead of his time imo and I would the chance to sit by him and chat about...well, everything! Mainly music of course. And why he decided to call it quits with music at such a young age (I believe he wasn't even 25 years old when he said Adios to the music business).

• This person was my tough one. The one I couldn't decide for a while. Had to really think about it. And I really chose him for 'entertainment' purposes. I was thinking John Lennon but then I thought "Hm....???" Very tough call so after much debating, another Sid it is.
• Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols. What a story! I mean I think some of you know it. So I won't say too much. Basically when I think of the word PUNK, I see Sid's face. A lot of people credit him for the word and he really lived it up...unfortunately to the point of his own death at a very young age. Every time I see him talking in an interview or something like that, I laugh because he seemed really funny and cool to just hang out with. He's really off the wall and speaks his mind and I LOVE that about anyone.
• Man, I don't know if WE (Syd, Ian, and Sid) could make it through dinner and a film honestly. Mainly because of SID-first off, I can't understand a lot of what he says (I think I'd need Johnny Rotten there to interpret, haha).
• Oh & wait-all three guys are British, hm...how did that happen? LOL. I <3>
• Oh, and Sid is so rude (I honestly think he doesn't realize it) that maybe it'd have to be 3 separate dates and then one big ol' date with all 3 guys. I mean...I think they'd be at each others throats for some reason...and the date would probably be over in a short time. So I think I'd HAVE to do THREE separate dates...then one BIG one which would be very interesting. ;)

So yeah, that's my THREE musicians. :) Who would you choose? And you can say a lil' why also.

I went to Halloween USA last week to browse and also to look at Masquerade masks (just in case I got into DAMNED). And I really liked this one and may go back for it sometime soon.

Upstairs at my work. I swear this man/woman didn't have a boob before but looks like it does. Maybe someone stole them for whatever odd reason. Hm...

Breakfast is usually never offered around here past 10:30-11:00 am but yay, it's available ANYTIME at one of my fave restaurants, National Coney Island. Woooohooo!

This is my art room. This is what happens when I'm looking for one of my CD's (recordable ones). And yeah, they are still on the floor. :P

This branch reminded me of my blogging friend COCO. It's just a branch in a corner. Wonder who placed it there?

And guess where I'm at below? Yes those are porto a (?) potties, oddest name ever. And they're at....The Renaissance Festival. I told you guys I wouldn't take any pics but I did. But only a few. Here they are below.

It was really dark that day and my cellphone doesn't have a flash so unfortunately this pic isn't the clearest. This guy (who works there) has a rubber ducky hat. It's pretty cool. Click to enlarge it and it looks a lil' bit better.

My friend eating a pickle. I said I don't believe you can eat that massive thing. But she did and fast and she even wanted another. And CINDY, you should come to Michigan's Ren Fest...the pickles are cheaper. A bill for a dill!!! Yup, only ONE DOLLAR. The economy didn't affect those pickles, ha ha. ;)

I think it's really beautiful. I am starting to collect this artist's prints. I have 2 of her Alice ones and one gothic print also...so this one will make #4. The artist is one of my favorites, Jasmine Becket-Griffith, and the name of this piece is "Pet Trilobite." Mike said he thinks trilobites look creepy and although I think so (a bit) too...I still think this is a wonderful piece of art. There's just 'something' about it...ever feel that way about something/someone?

When Jasmine (she's one of my FaceBook friends, yay!) posted this picture, I commented on it...and she was sweet enough to respond pretty quickly to my compliment. I told her I will probably get this ASAP because it's so lovely. So I took a look in her shop, which can be found HERE, and I just am waiting for my bank to put more funds in my PayPal account. And it's a great size too-8 x 16. Slightly bigger than her past prints and a lil' pricier but I'm sure worth it.
