What a great show at 323 East Gallery in Royal Oak Saturday night. Beautiful Monstrosities had many new artworks by local Detroit artists Audrey Pongracz and April Segedi. I've been looking forward to checking out this show for a while. A very cool interview with the two artists about this Victorian-themed show can be found here.

Goldfish Tea...

...is one of my favorite places.
It's in Royal Oak {Michigan}...where there's also a bunch of other cool shops.
Goldfish Tea is super relaxing and the tea is so good. I am not a big tea person but wow, their teas are amazing. I like the black teas...with lots of cream, yum.
They have open mic and bands on the weekends too. I like to go there to chill and draw sometimes. Here's their link.

Vinyl Redux show tomorrow night!

She's one of 11 pieces I will have on display/for sale beginning tomorrow night at the grand opening of the Funhouse Gallery. The Vinyl Redux art show runs until mid-July but ya know, it's always best to go to the opening reception. It's a cash & carry show, which means bring cash, buy what you like, take it home with you. 50 local, national, and international artists will have pieces at this show. The Funhouse is located in the Russell Industrial Center.

Rock For Christel Benefit

Hello friends. This Saturday will be a very cool night. I am going to be a part of the benefit pictured above. I'm donating a piece of my art that will be auctioned to raise money for this great cause. A nice writeup of the event can be found HERE. I hope if you live in the Detroit area, you will stop by for a bit. There's gonna be lots of local bands, art auction & raffle, handmade items for sale...and again, all for a wonderful cause. I mean do you really need another reason to go? ;)

Damned III

Greetings! Yes I am STILL here. Always lurking in the shadows of Blogger. =) I've been wanting to write a post for a while now...but after thinking about things I think I'm going to do a post on a sum-up of my year. Might be a longer post, or I might break it down, I'll see how it goes.

But anyhow, guess what? I got into the DAMNED III art show! Yay! I'm very excited for this year's show. Sounds awesome & some of my friends will have art on display there also. So it should be really cool. DAMNED's website is HERE if you'd like to check it out.

My People's Arts Festival blog post, FINALLY!

Hey friends. I'm so sorry but I'm not going to do a PAF picture Blog. :( Instead please check out the link provided HERE to see a great shot of my art doll "Mother Nature" as well as other pictures from the festival. They are REALLY great shots of the event. Oh & please look several pictures after "Mother Nature" to see a nice shot of my table (my Munnys are shown, Gus Van Valentine, as well as some of my paintings).

I will say a bit about the festival though. Let's see...I'll say the not-so-good stuff first, not that it was terrible....So, my first festival was a lot of fun but also a lot of work. Work like setting up & taking down lots of stuff over the two days, then figuring out pricing, trying to avoid the humidity & heat on the second day (ahhhh!), trying to have the booth look enticing enough to get people to stop by, and just trying to make a buck or two in the process.

Awesome things about the People's Arts Festival:

• getting a lot of nice feedback from the public-I heard many "I like your style" comments...but usually those people didn't buy anything and that's understandable considering there were 130 artist booths. >.<
• my booth was in an awesome location and I had the coolest booth-neighbors. And I made a lot of new artist friends...which leads to the next awesome thing...
• ART TRADES! Yup, I did 5 art trades. It was fun to swap one of my pieces for another artist's work that I really appreciated...as well as having an artist compliment & appreciate my art too.
• having VISITORS. My mom & dad came down to the festival as well as my friend Karen and her husband. Also my friends Dollie & Matthew had a booth several down from mine & we visited one another throughout the two days.
  
• lastly, I did sell some stuff and I felt very happy & proud of that. This is what I remember selling. ;) A nice gentleman purchased "Mother Nature" on the last night...I sold my Munny Mac Bateman...actually did pretty decently selling (and sometimes just giving away) my art cards (ATC/ACEO)...my first sale was of an Alice piece titled "Looking-Glass" (with broken CD's, aka: mirror, and images from the book hot-glued on to sky blue painted canvas)...selling the first "sand & feathers series" painting 'White Circle'-a woman really appreciated it which made me happy since I made those 8 paintings specifically for the PAF...and the most surprisingly moment came when a woman purchased one of my older paintings (from 2001...yea not 2010, 2001!)-that was a pretty cool feeling.
• So I think it was very successful despite not making much money overall. One of the coolest things was to see people's reactions UP CLOSE & PERSONAL to my art. {Found it funny that some people thought I specialized in children's toys...nope, but maybe one day, lol.} I remember what one person had to say about "Mother Nature" (whom I thought was the star of my booth, haha)...she said "It's freaky but there's just something cool about it." Yup, great times, great people...I will be there for sure next summer. ^_^

People's Arts Festival is next weekend!

Hello friends. Well, it's getting closer and closer to what I've been looking forward to alllllll summer, the People's Arts Festival. This is my first time participating in this art event (the largest FREE arts festival in Detroit too)...as well as the first time I will have my very own booth anywhere. I'm excited and kinda nervous I must admit. Of course I realize that my art is darker than most and well...strange at times (hm, but being strange is good, my blogging friend Sullivan knows why, lol). So yeah, just a little nervous...think I'll be fine once I get there. :)

Also, I've been making art all summer specifically to sell at this show. These ones are pieces that I think are fairly affordable, and I'll be bringing some of my previous work too. Overall, I'm really looking forward to meeting some other cool artists, people interested in my art, and just having a good time at the festival. The PAF also has bands, food, drinks, and more. Dunny 2010 released today!

Today is Dunny Day. Not an official holiday but should be. ;) I have been pretty broke lately so I'm only getting 2...well I say 2 but it could be 3 if I get really anxious for another. (Which is highly possible.) The Dunny pictured above is the one I want more than any other in the series. Here's hoping I'll get it or someone will trade with me if I don't get it. LIFT (art gallery & toy store in Royal Oak) is having a cool little Dunny trading party later and I'm going. Of course I MUST...there will be giveaways, food & drinks, and people who are Dunny-crazy like me!

Hi ya's! So the Munny Show was last weekend at LIFT in Royal Oak and I had a good time. It was extra fun because it was also the first time I had any type of toys I altered/designed on display, yay! Today the city of Royal Oak was having a BIG sidewalk sale. One store, Noir Leather, had lots of cool stuff including mannequin parts, old vintage knick knacks, and...bones. Yes, real bones. As in cow bones. I mean I HAD to get them. How often do you see REAL bones for sale? ;) I will keep one for my "collection" (not that I had any bones before today) and the other I will alter in some artsy way. Oh yes, and a great deal on 'em too! {5 dollars for both, wow!}

The other score I got today was on this cool PLUSHIE, from my favorite store in Royal Oak, LIFT. He is some sorta creature...the tag doesn't say what he is so I'm gonna guess he's maybe a caterpillar-whale-squishy thing. He IS super cute & cuddly...AND he comes apart too! How funny is that? I couldn't leave Royal Oak without him.

Think I'm going to take a break from Cell Pics after this

I went to Halloween USA last week to browse and also to look at Masquerade masks (just in case I got into DAMNED). And I really liked this one and may go back for it sometime soon.

Upstairs at my work. I swear this man/woman didn't have a boob before but looks like it does. Maybe someone stole them for whatever odd reason. Hm...

Breakfast is usually never offered around here past 10:30-11:00 am but yay, it's available ANYTIME at one of my fave restaurants, National Coney Island. Woooohooo!

This is my art room. This is what happens when I'm looking for one of my CD's (recordable ones). And yeah, they are still on the floor. :P

This branch reminded me of my blogging friend COCO. It's just a branch in a corner. Wonder who placed it there?

And guess where I'm at below? Yes those are porto a (?) potties, oddest name ever. And they're at....The Renaissance Festival. I told you guys I wouldn't take any pics but I did. But only a few. Here they are below.

It was really dark that day and my cellphone doesn't have a flash so unfortunately this pic isn't the clearest. This guy (who works there) has a rubber ducky hat. It's pretty cool. Click to enlarge it and it looks a lil' bit better.

My friend eating a pickle. I said I don't believe you can eat that massive thing. But she did and fast and she even wanted another. And CINDY, you should come to Michigan's Ren Fest...the pickles are cheaper. A bill for a dill!!! Yup, only ONE DOLLAR. The economy didn't affect those pickles, ha ha. ;)

Jousting. This was our knight. But he lost. I thought he was the coolest one though. Darn him!
