Musical Monday: Skinny Little Bitch

Umm....I have nothing against (really really really) skinny girls....;} I mean skinny girls that shouldn't be THAT THIN if you know what I mean. It's kinda sad if you really think about it. Why does our society want US (ladies) to be so so so TINY!??! Have you seen the shorts they sell lately? Very scary...wouldn't be caught DEAD in 'em...even if I only weighed 100 pounds.

Anyways.....

This song is just very...true in many ways. And it flatout rules! Therefore, I enjoy it very much (been listening to it a lot lately). And, YAY, my boyfriend and I will be seeing 'em LIVE in October (they will be opening KMDFM's show)....can't wait cuz they sound like they will ROCK!!! ^_^

To play along with Musical Monday, please click HERE.

Hope you enjoy your week as well as "Skinny Little Bitch" by Angelspit...who are from down under. Seriously, they are from Australia.

OH & here's the lyrics directly from Angelspit's website...with the video below that.
(BTW: I chose the remix version for you to listen to-was the version I heard first thanks to my BF...so the lyrics are not exact-just a lil' FYI.)

SKINNY LITTLE BITCH

I overcame my bone structure and metabolism
I made myself engage in mind-numbing conversation
A fad diet left me with skin, bone and bitterness
starved myself to a petite listening to repetitive electro shit

Prey to the fairies
she got her wish
tied up and vacuous
she made the switch
step into her carriage
put on the ritz
saliva laced malicious
skinny little bitch (singin’)

LA LA LA LA

hey, like my tats? Full sleeve, Black and White
2 toned, no-ones’ home, in today, out tonight
shiny happy die alone, viscous girls, plastic guys
you keep on scratching my back and I’ll scratch out your eyes

(he is the) home coming queen, hip new breed of clique
wears a Tiara made of daggers and is in the top 8
you throw him a kiss he throws hi-voltage bouquets
if he can’t have your affection then he’ll thrive on your hate

membrane of bitterness
words that rip
Topped of with a tongue with your name on it’s tip
Hatred for a skeleton
ugly and rich
all wrapped up in a skinny little bitch (singin')

LA LA LA LA

Musical Monday: Take Everything

Happy Musical Monday! I must say that I...LOVE LOVE LOVE the beauty & sadness that is Mazzy Star. They make me happy, sometimes and sad, sometimes (and sometimes both at the same time)...with their beautiful soothing & heartfelt music. Odd!??...No-it's great. Here's "Take Everything," one of my faves off Among My Swan-probably my fave album by 'em and sadly their last. :( Enjoy! And play along with Musical Monday HERE. ^_^

One more HOPEFULLY...oh & Musical Monday: Heart

...and THAT one is-hopefully I'll be seeing the awesome-lady-fronted group HEART tomorrow. My mom is out of town so I'm unsure whom I'm going with. But I kinda feel (with a free ticket & all) that if no one can go with me, I might go by myself. That would be the 1st concert I will have been to by myself. Hm....I don't know how I feel about that. It sucks because 1-it's a bit of a distance on the expressway...2-i hate trying to find my car after a concert (even when I'm with someone!)...3-i would rather have some company although most peeps don't really sit there & chat through a concert.

Hmm....would YOU go to a concert you really really REALLY wanted to see by your lonesome? I have contemplated it in the past too, but ended up not going...and I didn't regret it (because of a couple of the reasons I listed above & other reasons too)....BUT I REALLY want to see this band & with a free ticket, you can't beat it! Ya know?!!?

Please play along with Musical Monday HERE or HERE.

Musical Monday: Happy

Happy Musical Monday everyone, which is brought to you by Diane and Jori. Please visit 'em to play along too!

This week I chose a Fischerspooner song because I am so excited to be seeing 'em LIVE this upcoming Sunday May 31st at the Majestic in Detroit. This will be my first time...because they are mean to their US fans (well, not really)...and usually end up playing overseas or in New York (they are a NY performance-art-electronica band).

Sorry this video (fan made I'm sure) is VERY strange but "HAPPY" is a really great song, & this was the only clip I could find. Sorry. :( "Happy" is from their 2nd album Odyssey. And I'm very HAPPY to be seeing 'em...finally, so it fits.
Hope you enjoy the song and have a good week!~

Musical Monday: Disorder (also an Ian Curtis tribute)

Hello peeps and happy Musical Monday brought to you by Diane and Jori. I was planning on doing a little tribute on the singer of the band I chose for this week, so I just decided to incorporate it all into one for Musical Monday. So you don't need to go any further than the next couple of lines if you're not interested. OK, so first, I chose Joy Division's "Disorder" because I really enjoy their 1st song from their 1st album called Unknown Pleasures. I also chose this particular YouTube clip because it's a tribute to Ian Curtis, who passed away 29 years ago today-on May 18th, 1980. He was only 23 years old.

Ian Kevin Curtis was born on July 15th 1956 in England. He both got married and had a child at a very young age. His band Joy Division only made 2 albums in their short time span but left a huge impact on music. And right when they were about to go on their first tour of America in 1980, Ian committed suicide. Very sad. Again, he was only 23.

He had great stage presence and is known for his extremely deep/low voice, though he does not speak like that. Joy Division's biggest hit (single) was "Love will tear us apart," which his wife also put on his headstone. Ian was a very troubled soul and suffered from both depression (some would say bipolar disorder today) and epilepsy. He also was having an affair while he was married, but didn't want to leave his wife...and as a result was very troubled by this. Of course people don't exactly know why he killed himself with BIG fame right around the corner. But if you put some of the pieces together (like the depression, his affair, his marriage) you can see how he got to that place a bit.

I've read the book his widow, Debbie Curtis, wrote about him titled Touching From A Distance and it was really good. It showed Ian in a different light. She knew him quite well of course. I recommend that book for all you Joy Division fans. (It is also great for Joy Division fans because it has ALL his lyrics in it.)

Also one of my favorite photographers, Anton Corbijn (and friend to the band), made his first film within the past few years called Control, depicting Joy Division's rise to almost BIG fame (w/unknown actors except for Samatha Morton)...and much about Ian's rocky life too of course (the story was primarily based off his wife's book). I also recommend that to you if you're interested to know more about Joy Division, how they impacted music, and especially if you're curious about Ian and his very troubled soul.

But honestly I prefer the documentary over everything simply titled Joy Division. You can take a peek at it here. All the band members, producers, photographers, and even his mistress speak in this documentary (his wife doesn't appear but was interviewed somewhat through some quotes though, very curious). VERY very good piece of informative info on Joy Division and Ian Curtis' life-showing many live clips as well. Well, worth the money if you're a Joy Division fan...and definitely worth a renting for music lovers.

This picture above is my all-time favorite of Ian Curtis. It's a terribly sad story about him but the light at the end of the tunnel was that a great band came from the ashes of Joy Division and that band is New Order-the 3 remaining members of Joy Division formed this band also with a female keyboardist. I love New Order and if it wasn't for them I honestly would've never have found out about Joy Division.

It took me several years to realize it but I do prefer Joy Division over New Order's sound. Granted Joy Division only had 2 albums come out (while New Order have many under their belt)....but then there's other music/compilations that were made over the years with Joy Division's music on 'em like Still and Substance. Next year marks the 30th anniversary of his death, wow! I know 29 years is a long time but I wonder if anything will come out/etc... for that. I'm hoping for a live DVD or something along those lines. That would be great to see. RIP Ian.

I made this on Obamaicon a while back...using my fave image of him and the name of a Joy Division song.

Here's the music tribute clip...

Musical Monday: Shine On

Happy start of a new week as well as Happy Musical Monday to you all. My pick this week is one of my favorite songs by one of my fave bands, Apoptygma Berzerk. It's a cover (called "Shine On") but I'm not sure who does the original. For some curious reason I tend to like a lot of Apoptygma's cover songs including their covers for: Fade To Black by Metallica, Trash by London Suede...and Cambodia by...again, not sure who does the original. Please play Musical Monday by visiting Diane and Jori. Hope you enjoy "Shine On."~

This is my husband's band Dead Man's Bones...his name is Ryan Gosling. ;} Play along with Musical Monday by visiting Diane and Jori. (Ok, Ryan isn't really my husband...but it was kinda funny that a couple of you peeps thought so! Sorry.)

Musical Monday: Heads Will Roll

Happy Musical Monday to you all. Please visit Jori or Diane for more Musical Monday posts. I think I posted this before (but not for Musical Monday). It's one of the newest songs (and my personal favorite) off of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs CD It's Blitz! It gets BONUS points for having the word Looking-Glass in it. Very cool! Hope you enjoy it. ~ I also included the lyrics.~

Heads Will Roll

Off with your head
Dance until you're dead
Heads will roll
Heads will roll
Heads will roll
On the floor

Glitter on the wet streets
Silver over everything
The river's all wet
You're all cold

Dripping with alchemy
Shiver stop shivering
The glitter's all wet
You're all chrome

The men cry out
The Girls cry out
The men cry out
Oh no

Off with your head
Dance until you're dead
Heads will roll
Heads will roll
Heads will roll
On the floor

Looking glass
Take the past
Shut your eyes
You realize

Glitter on the wet streets
Silver over everything
The glitter's all wet
You're all chrome
You're all chrome

Off with your head
Dance until you're dead
Off with your head
Dance until you're dead
Off with your head
Dance until you're dead

Musical Monday: Last Day of Magic

Happy Musical Monday to you all. This is brought to you by Jori & Diane. Please click on their names for more Musical Monday posts.

My video this week is by a band called The Kills. It's called "Last Day Of Magic." O.k. it's kinda...well, it's definitely a very different kind of video. It may be hard for you to watch (it won't gross you out or anything) but please keep in mind that it's obviously not real, & that the singer & guitarist get along very well. Think they were just making a joke...does this make you curious? Anyways, it's my favorite song off their album so it "moves me." Hope you're not freaked out too much...just listen to the song & you'll be fine because it rocks. Take care.~

Musical Monday: Tainted Love by MM

Hey friends. I'm participating once again in Musical Monday, which is hosted by JORI and DIANE. So, I have always loved the song "Tainted Love" and when Marilyn Manson covered it (with the help of my future husband, Tim Skold) a while back, I fell in love with that rockin' version. Hope you enjoy.~

Musical Monday: Emerge

yay, it's another Musical Monday, which is hosted by Diane and Jori. so please check out their bloggers for more MM postings. so my song this week is Emerge by Fischerspooner.

what can i say? i'm gonna be pretty simple this Musical day & just say i love this song and i love this video. can listen to the song & watch the video over & over cuz they're that good. and the ending of the video shows a lil' to what a Fischerspooner show would be like too...though i've never been to one (darn them for not coming to michigan in a long time!)...just saw clips on YouTube. and wow, it looks like so much fun.

i bought the single for Emerge a while back, around 6 years ago, (w/this video on it). so here's some things that are said on it describing the song...
"1976: I Feel Love. 1983: Blue Monday. 2002: Emerge."-The Face
"Fischerspooner are the best thing to happen to music since electricity"-NME

"Warped Sexy Power Pop"-Mixmag

"Worldwide Smash-In-Waiting"-The Face

"Sexy"-Mixmag

Hope you'll enjoy Emerge. oh & be prepared to see some underwear...ha ha.~

Musical Monday: Anarchy

(i don't typically like blonde boys, but Skold is an exception.)

hi all. and happy monday to you. here's hoping we'll all have a lovely week. o.k. this is my 2nd time around at Musical Monday, hosted by Diane & Jori. the song i chose this week is Anarchy by KMFDM. this song means a lot to me in several ways.

for starters, when my boyfriend and i started to go out we were getting familiar w/one another's styles when it came to movies, music, and that kinda stuff. and i've always liked goth music but never got into anything industrial, (except a lil' bit of NIN), which is more his cup of tea. so about 7 years ago, he said "i think you'll like this song called Anarchy." he gave me KMFDM's Symbols album and low and behold, Anarchy ended up being my favorite song off that CD. must've listened to it a million times & to this day, that song still holds up.

so again, this song means a lot to me basically cuz it was really my first taste of "industrial" music. i didn't think i'd ever like that kind of music or really get it. and some is still very hard/loud to listen to. but overall this new type of music (for me) opened up my eyes or ears(?) to many bands to come like...Skinny Puppy, Ohgr, Thrill Kill Kult, Pigface, etc...whom i all like very much.

and lastly (and most importantly, ha ha), this song introduced me to my boy Tim Skold. he sings the song, wrote the lyrics, does the music w/Sascha on Anarchy. once i saw his picture i was like "Oh my!" cuz he's super cute. no but seriously i love his work (w/KMFDM, his own band Skold, and Marilyn Manson) and i consider him to be one of my fave musicians ever. (Damn Mike for being able to see him live with Ohgr! I only saw Skold when he was in Marilyn Manson but he was a million feet away-i was in the balcony, ugh!)

so i am really looking forward to his new project/CD called Skold Vs. KMFDM. i can only hope this means he's back to work w/Sascha for a while (cuz MM & him are done, thank God! preferred him w/KMFDM for many reasons). or maybe if he atleast does some solo stuff because i really want to see him live/meet him one day. that would rule! i love everything about him, especially his great (sexy) voice. sorry for the ramblings but Skold (as he's usually called) is one of my BIG loves. ;}

my video below. sorry! i honestly couldn't find anything showing KMFDM because there's not many good "videos"/live clips for this song. so basically this "video" is a black screen w/Skold's lyrics popping up when he sings. hm, actually it's kinda cool because the lyrics are also VERY important to me...because i love Skold's writing style. Mike has even said that sometimes when i write lyrics for our band that they sound Skold-ish. of course i say "I'm not doing it on purpose!" so he definitely has influenced me and continues to be someone i admire. hope you'll enjoy Anarchy.~

Musical Monday: Human Behaviour

Ms. Diane at Good Mourning, Glory! asked me to participate in Musical Monday so here i am, and this is my 1st time. i chose this particular song by Bjork because it reminds me of two things.

1) it reminds me when i was in junior high & during that time, MTV was still playing videos (and good ones)..."alternative" music was just starting to get BIG. and...
2) this was prob the 1st video i saw that was very artsy, kinda bizarre, & just completely different than anything i've ever seen before (in a wonderful way of course!). Michel Gondry you rule...& he's one of my fave directors now too. ALSO, after hearing this cool song (saw the video for it 1st) i went out & got her CD.
and to this day, i'm a HUGE Bjork fan.~

thanks again to Diane and Jori for letting me join them in Musical Monday. enjoy "Human Behaviour" by the one & only Bjork.~
