New art ideas & techniques

Hello fellow Blog readers.  I am working on some new ideas with my artwork.  I am using more water and less paint...and I am really liking the results.  I am going to continue in this direction for a while...I just love experimenting!!

Drawings, Art Shows, and HP Art Fair

Hello Blogger Friends, it's been a while.  Not too too much ART stuff has been happening lately and I really haven't been in many shows over the past year.  And it was something I didn't realize until recently.  So I wanted to start doing a couple shows again so several months ago I decided to do a show called REJECTED.  The theme was artwork that had been rejected from a previous art show.  I got one piece in called "Stand," which was rejected from a tattoo show called INK.  Rejected was a pretty good show.  My art piece was a painting based off the drawings I do (like the one pictured above), so I was glad to show it.

I have been drawing quite a lot lately.  It's 10 times easier to do than painting and it is far less messy of course.  I've been drawing an image of a woman with a blindfold for quite a while now...maybe 5 years.  She pretty much always has a blindfold as eyes (unless I give her a half mask)...but her body and hair are always changing.  For example in the picture above she has hair that is long but that is actually a raven's face and beak (see it?).  Also she has no arms...I didn't really feel the need for them in this drawing.

So just because I decided to do an art show next month called Corpus Illuminata.  The theme is artwork that is anatomical, biological, or medically themed.  The piece that they selected for this show is a drawing of mine in which a female figure is carrying a fetus.  I have drawn this image before and almost chose to submit the original drawing of it...but I chose to work on a new updated version to see the result.  And I liked the result so I am happy it got chosen for this show.

Also at the end of next month I will be doing an art fair with a friend of mine.  It is called the Hazel Park Fine Art Fair.  I did this show several years ago and I am pretty excited to be doing it again.  I specifically made smaller art for this show (so I could charge less) so I am hoping the fair gets a good turnout.  When I did it the first time the show was very slow...I am thinking it was that way because it was a fairly new art festival.

Hope your summer is going well friends!  Talk to you soon again!

How About A New Drawing?

Definitely been drawing much much more than painting lately.
Here's a detail of one of my most recent drawings.
Strange, I seem to always draw that bird/raven/dark creature that is connected to the female figure.
It didn't even start out as the raven creature...hm, interesting how that happens.

Been posting more of my in process drawings & paintings on Instagram too...
compared to Facebook I mean.
My name over on Instagram is Eve Noir...pretty easy to find.
Follow me there if you'd like.

Black White & Red Show

My first group show of 2013.  Happy!  I will have three new pieces on display.  Two are abstract drip art works and the other is a figurative piece...it's a girl I typically draw but have made into a small painting.  Hope there's a good turnout.  There will also be three bands playing.  This Saturday night at the Funhouse Gallery, located in the Russell Industrial Center.

Glacier Kingdom and Inspirations

Hey Blogger friends. This is one of my latest paintings "Glacier Kingdom." Currently it's what I see on my wall when laying in bed. I was really happy with the way this one came out. Part of my new technique is trying not to use every bit of the white canvas. It is a challenge but I like that.

Inspirations lately for painting, as well as general interest (whether subconsciously or consciously) have been:
  • the Arctic
  • Mountains
  • Caves
  • Water
  • Stalactites
  • Eskimos
  • Native Americans
  • Icicles...Frost...everything COLD...(thought the weather in Detroit has been unusually warm for this time of year)

This painting is one of several I've done over the past few months that show my new painting style. This is the direction I hope to keep going in. I've definitely felt like I've grown quite a bit as an artist this year. More so than last year. Last year I was still working heavily in mixed media...trying to figure out my painting style. Wondering if I really was a painter...or would I just continue to do mixed media stuff? Though those are paintings too. What I mean is straight up paintings...nothing other than paint on the canvas.

And now I have found a happy-medium. These types of paintings (I will call them my Drip Paintings) still have a lot of texture because well, that has always been a big part of my art. So it has been working...and I'm happy with the direction I'm going into. I feel like it IS a very focused direction. I haven't felt that with my art until now. So it feels really good. ^_^

I hope you're doing well. Happy Holidays!!! Love, Eve

Sometimes a Picture Says More

I've realized I haven't shown much of my art lately. I need to get back on that. I draw very often nowadays. The one pictured above is one of my more detailed drawings. If you're curious I just use regular rollerball pens, needlepoint .05. A very very fine tip is what I like the most. Also, I've discovered that drawing relieves a lot of stress. And really I just get lost in the drawing. Just like painting. And I like that feeling.

Hope you're all doing good!

Goodbye Past, Hello Future

Learning how to part with your artwork.
It's as important as creating the art.
I know many artists have a hard time parting with their work.
Because it can be very difficult.
So many emotions get put into your art.
But overall, I do LOVE it when someone owns a piece of my art.
I like it when it means something to someone else.
I feel like it's no longer mine physically or mentally.
I understand that a bit better now.

And I love giving it away as gifts too.
I even leave it places every now & then.
{like the picture above, left somewhere today}
It happened to be in my car.
And I had to make space for two huge canvases.
So I left it in a sorta symbolic way...
to say Goodbye to tiny art works I've been making for a while.

And Hello to BIG works to come.
In size....but I'm hoping more so in meaning.

Because I have a clearer vision of the direction I want to go as an artist now.
The People's Arts Festival and the two other shows I was in this month helped with that.
And this is a really good feeling.
I've been waiting for this.
The feeling that you are growing as an artist.
I've only been doing shows for 2 years now...
though I've been making art for about 12 years.
So I guess this art show stuff is relatively new.

Also, I went to the Detroit Institute of Arts yesterday...
and it always gets me thinking.
What do I want to leave behind as an artist?
What do I have to say?
What would I like future generations to see on the walls of the DIA?
Or any museum for that matter?
Not just talking about my own work...
the work that is going on right now in the art world.

You have to take into consideration the past...
the present...
and of course the future.
That's what artists do whether they realize it or not.

Vinyl Redux, Coming Soon

The Vinyl Redux Art Show is coming soon. Opening reception is June 4th and the show will run through July 15th. It's also the grand opening of the gallery itself, The Funhouse Gallery, located in the Russell Industrial Center. The gallery focuses on outsider, lowbrow, and street art.

I'm excited. It's been a while since I've been a part of a show. Vinyl Redux is all art on vinyl records. Some people may have done altered record sleeves as well. I tried that, didn't work so good though. So I did the maximum that you can display, 10 records. Actually I probably did closer to 20, been working on 'em for quite a while. So the rest I will probably bring to the People's Arts Festival this year.

8 of the 10 records that I'll have at the show are paintings while the other 2 are mixed media pieces. The picture above, Mime Girl, is one of my records that will be at Vinyl Redux. Think she might be my favorite one of the ten I made. I liked her so much I even put her image on my newest business cards.

Enjoy your weekend!

Art Progress 2011

Here's some of my art works for 2011.
This isn't everything (ex. wood plaques & altered dolls).
I really like making faces lately...
and still like doing my drip paintings too.

Honestly, it's been a slow year for shows...
but things are gonna pick up soon.
And I've actually enjoyed the mini-break.
It has given me time to think about my art process.

Hope you are all doing well.

First post for February: some art & photography

Hello Blogger friends.
Here's some new (and old) pictures for your viewing pleasure. I've been doing some photography a bit more often. Some are just random shots I post on my Facebook art page. And some are when I'm working on a "project"...a "look" for a performance art character.
I was going to wear the above "look" for a show but got cold feet at the last minute. But it will be used for something...sometime. Just wasn't feelin' it for this particular show.

Also, you will see some of my art that I've completed recently. Art Shows you may wonder? Well, more than likely I won't be part of a show until the summer. And I'm fine with that. Gives me time to rework a lot of paintings and to think about the new directions I want to go into. Last year was CRAZY BUSY. I had a show almost every month. I'm glad things are at a much slower pace now. Plus this weather has been insane! Could barely get down my street today, ugh. Spring needs to get here asap!

Hope you are all doing good.

Art Progress for 2011

Hi. This is some of my art progress so far this year.
Pictured above:
in process piece of a new character i created...
called TearDropBaby

I'm trying to do a series...
and I want to do more series/themed stuff this year as well.

Below is Mother of Sludge Duck.
It's part of my White:Blue:Black series.

Below:
creepy statue i found (and then altered)...
from the Salvation Army

an altered Be Goth toy

In process piece w:feathers, glitter, acrylic paint

I also want to do a NOIR series.
Because I found these awesome black canvases at Michaels.
Not sure what I want to do yet...
but I know I want it very simple.
so the black is pretty dominant.

So here's some more things I've been messing around with.
Pictured below: my art on a record. Yes vinyl.

Pictured below:
Well, I tried making another heart similar to my piece that was up for auction.
It's sorta similar, definitely not as good as the first one. But I'm still happy with it.

Last but never least, an altered Barbie doll.
Materials: gauze, pin, craft cord, paint, faux flowers.

Rock For Christel Benefit

Hello friends. This Saturday will be a very cool night. I am going to be a part of the benefit pictured above. I'm donating a piece of my art that will be auctioned to raise money for this great cause. A nice writeup of the event can be found HERE. I hope if you live in the Detroit area, you will stop by for a bit. There's gonna be lots of local bands, art auction & raffle, handmade items for sale...and again, all for a wonderful cause. I mean do you really need another reason to go? ;)

My mixed media piece, To Bring You My Love.
I hope it gets a nice offer and goes to a good home.
