this one i've been watching a lot to get inspiration for my portrait of Klaus.  i want to include some of the lyrics.....Will they know me (nomi) know me (nomi) know me (nomi) now?  Read below for more info...

i've fallen back into a deep love & slight obsession with Klaus again.  but THIS time i have actually ordered his CD.  strange none of it is available on iTunes.  i love this version of The Cold Song...think all his live stuff is probably 10x better than studio stuff.  anyhow i hope to work on a painting of him...a portrait...i love him and damn him for having his life cut short.  still he left behind some wonderful music.  xox Klaus!

Glacier Kingdom and Inspirations

Hey Blogger friends. This is one of my latest paintings "Glacier Kingdom." Currently it's what I see on my wall when laying in bed. I was really happy with the way this one came out. Part of my new technique is trying not to use every bit of the white canvas. It is a challenge but I like that.

Inspirations lately for painting, as well as general interest (whether subconsciously or consciously) have been:

• the Arctic
• Mountains
• Caves
• Water
• Stalactites
• Eskimos
• Native Americans
• Icicles...Frost...everything COLD...(thought the weather in Detroit has been unusually warm for this time of year)

This painting is one of several I've done over the past few months that show my new painting style. This is the direction I hope to keep going in. I've definitely felt like I've grown quite a bit as an artist this year. More so than last year. Last year I was still working heavily in mixed media...trying to figure out my painting style. Wondering if I really was a painter...or would I just continue to do mixed media stuff? Though those are paintings too. What I mean is straight up paintings...nothing other than paint on the canvas.

And now I have found a happy-medium. These types of paintings (I will call them my Drip Paintings) still have a lot of texture because well, that has always been a big part of my art. So it has been working...and I'm happy with the direction I'm going into. I feel like it IS a very focused direction. I haven't felt that with my art until now. So it feels really good. ^_^

Barbie Redux by Patricia Anders

As many of you know, I love altering Barbie Dolls. But wow, I haven't seen anyone alter them the way artist Patricia Anders can! They are amazing to say the least. And very inspiring when looking at new ways to alter my own dolls. Patricia also creates some really beautiful paintings. This artist has inspired me lately...

...her name is Laurie Maitland...
and she's an abstract expressionist from Britain.

I purchased (well, the print) for dirt cheap at a Michaels going-out-of-business-sale.
I love it lots but my FAVORITE piece that I've seen so far of hers is the one above...it's called Constellations II.

Her pieces have inspired me to paint more and put the glue gun on the back burner...
especially when making my ATC's (artist trading cards).
And YES, one day I will post pics of those...
once we get the part we need for this computer.
