Yay, Heath Ledger won an Oscar for his performance in The Dark Knight. It sucks that TDK wasn't up for anything much bigger than visuals, editing, etc...BUT just him winning makes me content. His family (father, mother, sister) accepted the award and it was really touching & sad. The 'celebrities' looked very sad too when they were filming the audience. It was a very intense few minutes but he deserved it & that's all that matters.
I watched the beginning of the show and then had to stop (but I was taping it anyways). Then I FINALLY got to his award & lemme tell you, the Oscars seemed so terrible. Yeah, the host (Hugh Jackman) was talking about a recession while there's tons & tons of freakin' crystals or diamonds hanging from the ceiling...WTF? But it wasn't just that THAT made me think the Oscars were terrible. It was mainly because I watched the Spirit Awards last night & this seemed so stiff & ridiculous compared to those-the Indepedent Film (aka: Spirit) Awards.
Why do I give in to the Oscars & think they mean so much? I really shouldn't but in the end, I'm just happy Heath Ledger got an Oscar for his wonderful performance as The Joker. That's all I was really hoping for tonight.~

6 Curious people had this to say...:
I don't know ... I loved the opening. But I love movies and I love award shows. Im just glad that the wrestler didn't win anything , it was horrible @!@
I definitely agree. I'm very glad Heath Ledger was awarded an Oscar. It was a nice little moment when his family accepted the award on his behalf.
I'm still watching the show--I recorded it last night--but already it just seems sort of blah. I like Hugh Jackman as host--he's a cool enough guy-- but he just doesn't seem to be on it that much. not as much as Billy Crystal and other hosts, anyway.
The musical number with Beyonce was horrendous and I hated how they changed from showing movie clips of the nominated actors to now having previous years' winners sort of "introduce" the current crop of nominees. it all just seems kind of mediocre and it just doesn't really matter that much (like you said) because Hollywood seems so out of touch. I may never even see some of the nominated films and it just seems odd that it's all the same movies being nominated when there are SOOO MANY movies out there. and not just awesome or cool movies but GOOD movies! ugh. I'm just so underwhelmed with the whole thing. end of rant.
I agree MIKEY that the part where the previous years' winners introduce 'em is ridiculous. My boyfriend gave what they did a few good words, I'll have to tell it to you later since I've forgotten it at the moment. But it's very fitting, even if it's a bit naughty of language.
Yeah i kinda wanted to see a re-cap if you will of the film to show why they deserved it. not them kissing each others ass !
Yes, Mike said something to that extent Jenny. I want to say he called it mutual masturbation...I gotta ask him (but he's at work right now). And then I thought about it, and thought that THAT is exactly true!!!
I don't bother with the Oscars since the English Patient as u know dahhhling. I'm very happy that Ledger won thanks for the news! }:)
